What is NSE?
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is one of the two leading stock exchanges in India. It was established in 1992 and is located in Mumbai. It is well-known for its electronic trading platform and is India's largest stock exchange in terms of daily trading volume. It lists a wide range of financial instruments, including equities, derivatives, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and more.
Trading Holidays
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) observes several trading holidays each year. These holidays are either national and regional festivals or government holidays. The NSE entirely directs these holidays, and it may close the market on days other than the scheduled holidays or open the market on days initially declared as holidays.
Keep in mind that holiday dates can vary from year to year. Further, trading holidays can vary amongst different segments, such as equity, currency and commodity markets. Therefore, it’s crucial to keep an eye on the trading holidays of each segment and plan the trades accordingly.
Trading Session
The commodities derivatives segment at NSE is open for trade from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 / 11:55 p.m. Except for Saturdays and Sundays, trading occurs every day of the week.
Settlement Holiday
The Bombay Stock Exchange of India (BSE) observes several trading holidays each year when the exchange is closed for trading. These holidays are generally national and regional festivals, government holidays, and special holidays as directed by the exchange. Please note that holiday dates can change from year to year, so it's important to check on the official website of BSE or your trading platform for updated information.
Muhurat Trading
'Muhurat Trading' means a special trading session held in the Indian stock markets on the auspicious festival of Diwali. The term 'Muhurat' means auspicious beginning. Investors and traders throughout the country offer prayers to Goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesha.
On the day of Diwali, Muhurat trading is held during a specific time in the evening. The exact timing for the same is fixed by the stock exchanges in India, and generally, it lasts for an hour. Both equity and derivatives segments are open for trading during Muhurat trading.
