1919

  • Indian branch of Castrol commenced activities through regional offices in Mumbai, Calcutta, Delhi, and Chennai.

1944

  • Name changed to Castrol Ltd.

1966

  • Castrol became part of the Burmah Group.

1981

  • Amalgamated Indian marketing and business of Castrol with Indrol Lubricants & Specialities Ltd.
  • Castrol agreed to hold 40% equity capital.
  • Allotted 6,00,000 equity shares to Castrol.
  • Retained Rs 95.27 lakh as interest-free loan from Castrol.
  • Came under MRTP Act due to Burmah Castrol Plc acquisition.
  • Entered registered user agreement for Castrol trademarks on June 9.

1982

  • Incorporated on December 10 as Indrol Lubricants & Specialities Ltd.
  • Commissioned first phase of lube oil refining plant in June.
  • Set up modern blending plant and brake fluid plant at Patalganga.

  • Issued 9,00,000 equity shares at premium Rs.9, with reservations to employees, associates, LIC, UTI.

1985

  • Commissioned brake fluid plant and lube oil blending plant at Patalganga in February and March.

1986

  • Commissioned second phase of lube oil refining plant on June 27.

1987

  • Formed subsidiary Indtech Speciality Chemicals Ltd for jellies and waxes in collaboration with Dussek Campbell, UK.
  • Allotted 25,43,800 bonus shares in 1:1 ratio.

1988

  • Offered 6,10,520 14% secured redeemable convertible debentures on rights basis.
  • Part A of debentures converted to equity shares after six months.

1989

  • Allotted 4,27,430 equity shares to Castrol Ltd. UK at premium of Rs.40.

1990

  • Changed name to Castrol India Ltd effective November 1.
  • Issued 36,93,645 bonus shares in 3:5 ratio.

1992

  • Merged subsidiary Indtech Speciality Chemicals with Castrol India Ltd.
  • Issued 59,09,832 bonus equity shares in 3:5 ratio.

1993

  • Allotted 35,37,862 equity shares to Castrol Ltd. UK at premium of Rs.100.

1994

  • Set up new plant in Silvassa at Rs.50 crores with state-of-art technology.
  • Issued 192,97,415 bonus equity shares in 1:1 ratio.

1995

  • Obtained ISO 9002 certification first in lubricant sector.
  • Launched Tractormax and RX Super Plus.
  • Signed agreement with Hindustan Powerplus for Caterpillar engines.
  • Launched two-stroke engine oils Jett X and Super TT.
  • Issued 231,56,898 bonus equity shares in 3:5 ratio.

1997

  • Maruti Udyog signed agreement to sell Castrol products through outlets.

  • Introduced GTX Magnetic for passenger cars.
  • Tied up with TELCO and LML for customised lubricants.
