Company History

1979

  • Incorporated on 5th December in Chennai, promoted by Dr. Prathap C. Reddy and associates; main object to run hospitals.
  • Set up 250-bed hospital at Greams Road, Chennai with over 50 speciality departments.
  • Acquired medical equipment including operating surgery unit, autoanalyser, angioscope, gamma camera, CAT scan.
  • Established cardiology department with CAT scan, head and body scan, two special, four minor and four major operation theaters.

1982

  • 3,49,900 shares subscribed by promoters, directors.
  • Issued 26,50,100 shares at par; 9,50,100 reserved and allotted to promoters, friends, NRI promoters.
  • Reserved 5,00,000 shares for NRI and investors; 4,03,450 taken up.
  • Offered 12,00,000 shares plus 96,550 for public subscription in December.

1984

  • Issued 2,00,000 15% partly convertible debentures as rights; 15,537 taken up, 98,133 allotted privately, balance devolved.
  • Convertible portion Rs 20 per debenture to convert to 2 equity shares after 3 years.
  • Non-convertible portion Rs 80 to be redeemed in 4 annual instalments at end of 7th-10th years.

  • Inaugurated Apollo Health Association (AHA) based on credit card system with 76 accredited hospitals.
  • Forfeited 29,600 shares in October, annulled 1,050; reissued 12,850 forfeited shares.
  • Allotted 2,56,772 shares in conversion of debenture interest.

1988

  • Allotted 5,18,298 equity shares in conversion of debenture interest till June.
  • Allotted 2,27,340 equity shares in conversion of debentures.
  • Allotted 1,72,660 shares in conversion of debentures from April 1988 to March 1989.

1989

  • Equipped hospital with MRI, SOMATOMCR CT scanner, videoendoscopy, mammography.
  • Recognised for teaching and training doctors for FRCR, U.K.
  • Finalised joint venture with I.R.T.C. USSR for Apollo Fyodorov Eye Research Institute.

1991

  • Commissioned Apollo School of Nursing offering 3-year diploma and internship.

1992

  • Added 16 intensive care beds and 26 patient beds with equipment.
  • Launched 24-hour ambulance service with wireless facility.
  • Setting up 150-bed cancer treatment and research centre on Mount Road, Chennai.

1993

  • Commissioned Apollo Cancer Hospital at Teynampet, Chennai.
  • Introduced Bone Marrow transplant facility, planned Gamma Knife and organ transplantation.
  • Allotted 54,17,831 shares as rights (1:1) and 4,850 to employees at premium of Rs 10.

1994

  • Increased bed strength to 465 at main hospital; added third cardio thoracic surgery theater.
  • Issued 40,00,000 equity shares at Rs 42 per share on private placement.

1995

  • Inaugurated Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad.
  • Planned launch of 'Apollo Heartline' tele-technology device.
  • Expanded services to preventive healthcare.
  • Joined WHO to eradicate Tuberculosis in washermanpet area, Chennai.
  • Launched asthma clinic and counselling centre for smokers.
