  • Sales grew 7.3% amid recession; commercial vehicle and tractor production dropped.

1987

  • Added new machines at Bangalore and Nasik; installed on-line computer at Bangalore.
  • Government approved capacity increase to 265,500 multicylinder pumps, 2,480,000 nozzle holders.
  • Received letter of intent for 165,000 elements, 215,000 delivery valves for exports.
  • Received letter of intent for 120,000,000 elements and delivery valves for spares.

1988

  • Awarded Trading House status.
  • Modernized telephone and telex equipment.
  • Added Cold Start facility for -20°C engine testing.
  • Appointed Bosch Global Development Centre for single cylinder pumps; developed new pump.

1989

  • Single-cylinder pump market sluggish due to pig iron shortage and credit squeeze.

1991

  • Received approvals to increase fuel injection equipment, spark plugs at Naganathapura, nozzles at Nasik production.
  • Entered collaborations for fine honing and super finishing machines.

1992

  • Introduced halogen bulbs, ignition coils, horns, voltage regulators, clutch plates, cover assemblies.
  • Entered technical collaboration with Witzig and Frank Turnatic GmbH for mechanical machining.
  • Entered agreement with Robert Bosch for bag form fill/seal machines; planned power tools.

1993

  • Motor Industries Software Services Ltd. and Motor Industries Trading Ltd. became subsidiaries on July 25.

  • Entered MoU with Government of Rajasthan for auto components facility near Jaipur.
  • Dr. Wolfgang Hugo and Dr. Eberhard Baltin retired from Board on June 17.
  • Dr. Hermann Eisele ceased as Chairman on June 18; Mr. Hubert Zimmerer elected Chairman.

1997

  • Launched Blaupunkt car audio systems in June.
  • Bangalore, Nashik, and Naganathapura plants awarded QS 9000 by TUV Essen.
  • Redesignated Dr. H. Bertling as MD and J.L. Pasricha, D. Schalomon as JMDs from September 19.

1998
