1997

  • The Company was incorporated at Mumbai as Central Depository Services (India) Limited.
  • The Company obtained its certificate of commencement of business from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

1998

  • The Company was initially registered by way of a certificate of registration by SEBI under the Depositories Regulations.

1999

  • The Union Finance Minister of India, Mr. Yashwant Sinha, flagged off the operations of the Company.
  • The first settlement of trades in demat mode through BOI Shareholding Limited began.
  • The Company obtained its certificate of commencement of business as a depository under Depositories Regulations.

2002

  • The Company launched its internet facility easi.
  • Online inter-depository transfer commenced.

2004

  • The Company launched its internet facility easiest.

2005

  • The number of active demat accounts with the Company crossed 1 million.
  • The number of companies admitted with the Company for demat crossed 0.005 million.

2006

  • The Company was awarded the BS7799 certification from Det Norske Veritas.
  • CDSL Ventures, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company, was incorporated.
  • The Company was awarded the ISO 27001 from Det Norske Veritas.
  • CDSL Ventures began customer profiling and record keeping of the KYC of investors for mutual funds.

2007

  • The Company signed an MoU with the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation of New York.
  • The Company signed an MoU with the Korea Securities Depository.
  • The Company launched its SMS Alert facility, called SMART.

2008

  • The number of active demat accounts with the Company touched 4.5 million.
  • The Company signed an MoU with Japan Securities Depository Center, Inc.
  • The Company signed an MoU with National Depository Center to bolster economic relations between India and Russia.
  • The Company signed an MoU with Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation.
  • The Company signed an MoU with Euroclear SA/NV to promote cross-border investment.

2009

  • The Hon'ble Minister for Corporate Affairs of India, Mr. Salman Khurshid, launched the Company's e-voting platform.
  • The Company signed an MoU with Bursa Malaysia Depository Sdn. Bhd. to pursue a cooperative relationship.

2010

  • The Company signed an agreement with Nepal Stock Exchange Limited to set up a depository and clearing and settlement system in Nepal.
  • The Company introduced the National Academic Depository.

2012

  • SEBI Chairman, Mr. U. K. Sinha, launched CDSL Ventures KRA, India's first and largest KYC Registration agency.

2013

  • The Company launched Transaction Using SMS Texting, a mobile-based utility.

2014

  • CDSL won the IDC Insights Award in the CIO category.
  • CDSL won the EMC Transformers Award in the best use of IT to transform business category.

2015

  • The number of active demat accounts opened with the Company crossed 10 million.
  • CDSL won the IDC Insights Award in the CIO category.
  • CDSL won the IDG's CIO100 Award for enterprise IT excellence.

  • CDSL won the Info Sec Maestros Award in the Information Security category.

2019

  • CDSL received SEBI approval to open an IFSC branch at GIFT City, Gujarat.

2020

  • CDSL inaugurated India's first IFSC branch at GIFT City.
  • CDSL crossed 2 crore demat accounts.
  • CDSL received AUA/KUA approval from UIDAI.
  • CDSL contributed to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund and Chief Minister's Relief Fund to fight against the novel coronavirus.

2021

  • CDSL surpassed the milestone of 4 crore active demat accounts.
  • CDSL became the first depository to open 5 crore active demat accounts.

2022

  • CDSL acquired a 6.78% stake in Open Network for Digital Commerce.
  • CDSL became the first depository to open 6 crore active demat accounts.
  • CDSL conducted an investor awareness program for the Assam Rifles.

2023

  • CDSL became the first depository to join the Account Aggregator framework as a Financial Information Provider.
  • CDSL became the first depository to open 10-crore demat accounts.

2024

  • The Company issued bonus shares in the ratio of 1:1.
