Company History

1986

  • Kamat Hotels (India) Limited was incorporated on 21st March.
  • The Company obtained the Certificate of Commencement of Business on 31st March.

1994

  • The Company made its Initial Public Issue of Equity Shares aggregating to Rs.3060 lakhs and Non-Convertible Debentures (NCD's) aggregating to Rs.550 lakhs.
  • The Company took over the management of The Kamat Plaza, a four star hotel near the Santacruz Airport, pursuant to the Management Contract with Plaza Hotels Private Limited for a period of 30 years with effect from 1st April.

1995

  • Kamats Tours & Travels was established in July.
  • Kamats Institute Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Food Research Centre was established in July.

1996

  • Kamats Siddharth at Nashik- 32 rooms - 3 Star Hotel with permit room was taken under Business Contract Agreement for 35 years.

1997

  • The Orchid was partially opened to public on World Tourism Day - 27th September.
  • The Orchid was awarded the International Certification from HVS ECO Services being awarded a 5 Globe ECOTEL rating.

1998

  • The Orchid was awarded the Green Globe Award.

2000

  • The Orchid was awarded the Green Globe Achievement Award 2000- RECOGNITION AWARD.
  • The Orchid was awarded the Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Award for Environmental Protection.
  • The Orchid was awarded the Environment Champion of the Year 1999-2000 amongst Large Hotels.
  • The Orchid was awarded the Hotel & Catering International Management Association Environment Policy Award 2000.
  • The Orchid was awarded the World Travel Market Environmental Company Award 2000.
  • The Orchid was Re-certified as Five Globe Ecotel.

2001

  • The Orchid was awarded the National Tourism Award for best 5 star Hotel Western Region.
  • The Orchid was awarded the PATA Gold Award for best Corporate Environment Programme.
  • The Orchid was awarded the ISO 14001 Certification.
  • The Orchid was awarded the Rotary Club of Mumbai North Island award for concern towards environment protection.
  • The Orchid was awarded the British Airways Tourism for tomorrow Awards- Large Scale Tourism.
  • The Orchid was awarded the Paryavaran Shree Puraskar 2001-2002.
  • The Orchid was awarded the International Hotel & Restaurant Association Environmental Award 2001.
  • The Orchid was awarded the 4 PATA Environmental Award for 2001 on the Hotel Excellence category.

2008

  • Kamat Hotels (I) Ltd has appointed Mr. Mahesh Kandoi Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of the Company with effect from 2nd April, 2008.
  • Kamat Hotels (I) Ltd has appointed Mr. Kurian Chandy as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Company with effect from September 01, 2008.

2009

  • Increased its shareholding to 26% from 17% in its joint venture company BW Highway Star by purchasing 1058824 shares out of the total paid up capital of the company.
  • The Company has successfully negotiated and completed the transaction for sale of its entire stake in Concept Hospitality Ltd in an all cash deal.
  • Increased its holding in BW Highway Star Pvt. Ltd to 75% by acquiring additional 49% of the equity shares.

2010

  • The Company has agreed to purchase 29,41,176 Equity Shares of Rs. 10/- each constituting 25% paid up Equity Share Capital of B W Highway Star Private Limited, a subsidiary of the Company.
  • Company has been awarded the Good Green Governance Award by Srishti Publications Earth Day in New Delhi.

2023

  • Kamat Hotels has acquired 100% Equity Stake in Envotel Hotels Himachal Pvt Ltd.
  • Kamat Hotels India announces new hotel management, leasing arm, Ira by Orchid Hotels.

2024

  • Kamat Hotels BOD approved the Scheme of Arrangement between Savarwadi Rubber Agro Private Limited and Treeo Resort Private Limited and their respective shareholders.
