Company History

1869

  • Captain J.H. Williamson and Richard Boycott Magor formed a partnership firm, Williamson Magor & Company.

1954

  • Williamson Magor & Company was renamed Williamson Magor & Co Limited.

1975

  • Williamson Magor merged with Macneill and Barry Ltd to form Macneill and Magor Limited.

1987

  • The Guthrie family sold their shareholding in the McLeod Russel group to the Khaitan family.

1992

  • Macneill and Magor Limited was renamed Williamson Magor & Co. Limited.

1994

  • The group bought 51% of the equity shareholding of Union Carbide India Limited and renamed it Eveready Industries India Limited.

1998

  • The company was originally incorporated as a private limited company.

2000

  • The company became a deemed public limited company.

2004

  • Eveready Industries demerged into two separate companies: McLeod Russel India Limited and Eveready Industries India Limited.

2005

  • McLeod Russel acquired Borelli Tea Holdings Limited and took over 17 tea gardens of Williamson Tea Assam Ltd.

2006

  • McLeod Russel acquired the Doom Dooma Tea Company.

2007

  • McLeod Russel acquired the Moran Tea Company and became the largest tea company in the world.

2008

  • Shareholders approved the scheme of amalgamation of The Moran Tea Company India with McLeod Russel India.
  • The government approved a 2.3 billion-rupee scheme for tea quality upgradation and product diversification.
  • Mr. A Khaitan was re-appointed as Managing Director and Mr. R Takru, Mr. A Monem, and Mr. K K Baheti as Whole-time Directors.
  • Mr. S N Menon was appointed as an Additional Director.

2009

  • Borelli Tea Holdings Limited acquired 100% of Phu Ben Tea Company Limited in Vietnam.

2010

  • McLeod Russel acquired Borelli Tea Holdings Ltd.
  • The Board recommended a dividend of Rs. 4 per share.

2011

  • The Government of Rwanda approved the sale of 60% shares of Gisovu Tea Company Limited to Borelli Tea Holdings Limited.
  • McLeod Russel set up a subsidiary in Dubai.
  • The Board recommended a dividend of Rs. 5 per share.

2012

  • McLeod Russel's stock rose over 4% due to an export incentive announcement.
  • The Board recommended a dividend of Rs. 6 per share.

2013

  • Borelli Tea Holdings Limited set up McLeod Russel Africa Limited in Kenya.

2014

  • McLeod Russel recommended a dividend of Rs. 7 per share.
