1974
- The Company was incorporated as ‘Rail India Technical and Economic Services Private Limited’.
1975
- RITES entered into a consultancy agreement for conducting techno-economic study for Syrian Railways.
1976
- The word ‘private’ was deleted from the name of the Company.
1985
- RITES developed a geotechnical centre for field and laboratory investigations.
1994
- RITES entered into an export contract for supply of diesel locomotives to Nepal Railways.
- RITES entered into a consultancy project agreement for providing services in relation to the Mass Rapid Transit System for Delhi Government.
1998
- RITES entered into a contract with Delhi Metro – Phase I project for providing construction management and consultancy services.
2000
- The name of the Company was changed to its present name, ‘RITES Limited’.
2004
- RITES provided detail design consultancy services for the 12.5 km long railway tunnel in India, the Pir-Panjal railway tunnel.
2005
- RITES was granted Mini Ratna category-I status.
- RITES executed its first overseas contract agreement for the lease of Locomotives in Mozambique.
- RITES received a proposal for providing design, construction supervision and post construction services for Francistown-Ramakgwebana Road project, Botswana.
2007
- RITES was upgraded to Schedule ‘A’ Public Sector Enterprise.
2009
- RITES formed a Joint Venture Company with SAIL for manufacturing of wagons.
2012
- RITES set up a subsidiary in collaboration with Indian Railways for generation and procurement of power.
- RITES received the EEPC Gold Trophy for Top Exporter.
- RITES received the India Pride Award 2012 in Transport category.
- RITES received the Gold Plate Award 2011-12 from HelpAge India.
- RITES was featured in Dun & Bradstreet’s India’s top PSUs 2012.

- RITES entered into an agreement with Metro Express Limited for providing construction management services for the Metro Express Project in Mauritius.
- RITES entered into an off-shore construction management project of metro in Mauritius.
- RITES entered into a railway concessioning agreement on PPP model by forming an SPV for Bhuj-Naliya corridor.
- RITES secured the highest value export order of about Rs 6,800 million from Sri Lankan Railways for supply of locomotives and DMUs.
- RITES recorded the highest ever turnover of over Rs 15,000 million in the history of the Company.
- RITES received the India Pride Awards 2016-17 for excellence in transport.
