1984

  • The Company was incorporated as a private limited company on 26th December.

1986

  • The Company was converted into a public limited company on 20th March.

1988

  • 9 shares were subscribed for by the signatories to the Memorandum of Association.
  • 70,99,991 shares were issued at par.
  • 17,49,991 shares were reserved and allotted to promoters, directors, etc. and SPIC.
  • 2,50,000 shares were reserved and allotted to UTI and LIC.
  • 3,55,000 shares were reserved for preferential allotment to employees.
  • 12,00,000 shares were reserved for preferential allotment to NRIs on repatriation basis.
  • The balance 15,45,000 shares were offered for public subscription during August.

1989

  • Substantial job contracts were accepted from the Semi-conductor Complex, Chandigarh.
  • The Govt. of India gave its consent for inclusion of 74 LS series and telephone ICs under the restricted list.
  • The Company introduced three types of push button telephone ICs.
  • The Company's high value memory ICs and clock ICs were well received in the market.

1990

  • The Company commenced production of Linear ICs used in instrumentation and professional electronic equipment.
  • The Company undertook to set up a magnetic media project.
  • The Company's 'Kit' form supply for Siemens designs enabled push button telephone manufacturers to get their requirements from one source.
  • The Company identified 'Memory ICs' required in large volume in India and was in the process of packaging and marketing them.
  • The Company obtained SA registration for manufacture of 3 million ECBs per annum.
  • The Company tied-up with M/s. Hitachi, Japan to introduce CODEC ICs.

1991

  • The Company commissioned the computer tape plant and the diskette plant for 5 1/4" 48 TPI diskettes.
  • The Company entered into a technical collaboration agreement with M/s. Computer Resources Inc. (CRI), U.S.A.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding was reached with SGS Microelectronica SpA, Italy for technical assistance.
  • High value ICs like Codec and SRAM were introduced.
  • The Company entered into a long term agreement with Semi Conductor Complex Ltd. (SCL).

1992

  • The total turnover increased by about 42% over the previous year.
  • 3,300 shares were forfeited and subsequently reissued.
  • 81,65,000 rights shares were offered and fully taken up.
  • The Company successfully tied-up with Hitachi, Japan for the source of raw material for Codec ICs.

1993

  • The Company introduced 256 K DRAMICS for the indigenous switching exchanges.
  • The Magnetic Media Project (MMP) was converted to an export-oriented unit.

1994

  • The Company's turnover reduced due to heavy destabilisation of the indigenous telecom equipment sector.
  • The Company's rights issue of 81,65,000 No. of equity shares was fully subscribed.

1996

  • The Company allotted 86,88,160 No. of equity shares to Financial Institutions.

1997

  • The Company set up a Laser Trimming facility.
  • The promoters of Spic and Madras Refineries Ltd. agreed to constitute a committee to suggest a methodology for re-appraisal of the projects finalised by Spic.

1998

  • The Company allotted 51,50,000 No. of equity shares to M/s. Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Limited (SPIC).
  • MMP was set up by SPIC Electronic to manufacture computer tapes, floppy diskettes and jumbo rolls.
  • The Company engaged in manufacturing electronic integrated circuits, floppy diskettes and computer tapes.

2000

  • Spic Electronic System Ltd changed its name to SPEL Semiconductor Ltd.

2007

  • The Registered Office of the Company was shifted from MAC House, 4 Sardar Patel Road, Guindy, Chennai to 5 CMDA Industrial Estate, Maraimalai Nagar, Chennai.

2013

  • SPEL Semiconductor appointed Mr. N. Ramakrishnan as an Additional Director of the Company.

2014

  • SPEL Semiconductor appointed Mr. M. Jayasankar as an Additional Director of the Company.

2015

  • VCSC Flood Relief was undertaken.
  • The Chairman addressed IIT-B FAN PD in USA.
  • Natronix-SPEL signed a MoU with the Government of Tamil Nadu for a 500 Crore investment during the Global Investors Meet.
