Definition of Futures and Options
Futures and options are exchange-traded derivatives which trade in the stock market, and derive their value from an underlying asset, which can be shares, indices, ETFs, commodities etc. Futures are legally binding contracts to purchase or sell a stock or asset on pre-determined terms. Option contracts give an investor the option of purchasing or selling a stock or asset on pre-determined terms.
