Company History
1983
- Mr. M P Ramachandran started Jyothy Laboratories as a proprietary concern in Kerala and launched Ujala.
1984
- Ujala was sold house-to-house through a team of six sales people in the Trichur and Malappuram districts of Kerala.
1986
- Jyothy laboratories released its first print advertisement in the Kerala-based Mathrubhumi newspaper.
1987
- Jyothy laboratories started advertising on radio.
- Jyothy laboratories graduated to a formal distribution system and ventured out of Kerala to the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu.
1992
- The Chennai Factory was commissioned to make Ujala.
- The company was incorporated as Jyothi Laboratories Pvt Ltd.
1994
- The Poandichery plant was commissioned, utilizing government incentives.
1995
- The company became a public limited company and its name was changed to Jyothi Laboratories Ltd.
- Nebula, an oil-based antibacterial washing soap, was launched in Kerala.
1996

1997
- Ujala was launched all over India.
2000
- Jyothy Laboratories launched Maxo in the state of West Bengal.
- Exo, an antibacterial dish wash bar, was launched in Kerala and later in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
- The Registered Office was moved from Kerala to Mumbai.
2001
- Jyothy Laboratories launched Vanmala washing soap in Kerala.
- Jyothy Laboratories launched Maya incense sticks in selected states.
- Jyothy Laboratories acquired the Maya detergent plant at Pitampur, Madhya Pradesh from Tata Chemicals Ltd.
2002
- Jyothy Laboratories acquired its subsidiary Sir Sai Homecare Pvt Ltd.
- The promoter agreed to transfer his rights and the rights of Jyothi Laboratories in the intellectual property to the company.
