1983
- Entered collaboration with Toshiba Corporation Japan for vacuum circuit breakers and switchgears.
- Entered technology transfer agreement with Yayasom Dian Desa Indonesia for Jyoti gasifiers.
1984
- Electronics division introduced 400 relay; laser division introduced vertical laser alignment systems.
- Energy division entered licensing for solar cookers and solar stills.
- Commissioned test bed for pumps up to 2200 cubic metres per hour and HT motors up to 1500 KW.
- Entered technical and financial collaboration with Sunstrip International Inc. Canada.

- Implemented collaborations with Toshiba Japan for vacuum circuit breakers and Sprecher Energie Switzerland for SF6 circuit breakers.

- Commissioned three 300 KW vertical hydel sets.
- Commissioned 2.5 MW 1000 RPM alternator with Pielstick diesel engine for cement factory.
1987
- Entered technical know-how agreement with BTG (NRDC) U.K. for Pole Amplitude Modulated Motors.
- Came under Sick Industrial Companies (Special Provisions) Act 1985.

1989
- BIFR appointed ICICI to prepare rehabilitation package.
1991
