Company History

1968

  • Incorporated on January 27 as Aristo Plast Pvt. Ltd.
  • Commenced plastic moulding job work.

1971

  • Became wholly owned subsidiary of Blow Plast Ltd.

1973

  • Became deemed public limited company under section 43-A on March 15.
  • Operational management changed hands.
  • Established manufacturing facilities for injection moulding, electroplating, anodising, frame bending, press shop, component manufacturing, and assembly.

1978

  • Issued 750 bonus equity shares in 1:1 proportion.

1979

  • Implemented first expansion at Nasik, increasing capacity from 40,000 to 60,000 pieces per month.

1980

  • Commissioned new tool room for press tools, jigs, fixtures, dies, and moulds.
  • Allotted 300 equity shares without payment and 450 for cash to Blow Plast Ltd. and nominees.

1981

  • Implemented second expansion, increasing capacity from 60,000 to 90,000 pieces per month.
  • Changed name to V.I.P. Industries Ltd. effective June 16.

1982

  • Launched soft luggage project at Jalgaon under ‘Skybags’ brand.
  • Implemented modernization at Nasik.
  • Issued 3,000 bonus equity shares in 1:1 proportion.

1985

  • Jalgaon moulded luggage plant contributed significantly to output.
  • 25% excise duty imposed on moulded luggage, exempt from March.
  • Began producing low-priced luggage.
  • Expanded Jalgaon capacity, modernized Nasik, set up Nagpur factory for moulded luggage.
  • Subdivided equity shares.
  • Issued 3,000,000 bonus equity shares at Rs. 2 premium linked to debentures with preferential allotments; balance offered publicly in 1986.

1986

  • Ceased to be subsidiary of Blow Plast Ltd.
  • Launched moulded luggage ranges ‘International Tourister’ and ‘Odyssey’.
  • Issued 2,400,000 equity shares at Rs. 2 premium linked to 960,000 15% secured redeemable non-convertible debentures with preferential allotments.

1987

  • Maintained production and sales despite go-slow and lock-out at Nasik factory; margins pressured by competition.

1988

  • Sales declined to Rs. 64.64 crores due to excise duty, competition, and input cost increases.
  • Issued 6,000,000 right equity shares at Rs. 30 premium in 1:1 proportion.

1994

  • Withdrew from Industrial Crates line and exports to Nigeria and CIS countries.

2000

  • Approved amalgamation of Cristobal Investments Co. Ltd. and Pristine Plast Ind. Ltd. effective April 1.

2001

  • Launched Moderna moulded chairs in wood finish.
  • Entered strategic alliance with Delsey.
  • Secured order for over 55,000 briefcases for German market.

2002

  • Milind Puranik resigned as Company Secretary.

2003

  • A. G. Warey resigned as Director effective June 6.

2004

  • Bid accepted for acquisition of assets of Carlton International plc (UK) under liquidation.

2005

  • Entered soft luggage segment.

2009

  • Appointed Radhika Piramal as Executive Director effective July 13.

2010

  • Appointed T. Premanand as Whole-time Director (Director - Works) effective July 27.

2011

  • Declared interim dividend of Rs. 3 per equity share of Rs. 10.
  • Appointed Jogendra Sethi as Chief Financial Officer.
  • Split face value of shares from Rs. 10 to Rs. 2.

2012

  • Declared interim dividend of 60 paise per equity share of Rs. 2.
  • Incorporated wholly owned subsidiary VIP Industries Bangladesh Pvt. Ltd. for luggage manufacturing plant.

2015

  • Won India Design Mark awards for VIP Spacelite 360, Carlton Stark Strolley, Impaq PRO Spinner Laptop bag.
  • Won Good Design Award for VIP Spacelite 360 degree Spinner.

2016

  • Won India Design Mark award for Carlton Hampton 3 Laptop backpack.
  • Brand Caprese awarded best brand in ‘Bags & Accessories’ category by Shoppers Stop.
  • Awarded ‘Regional Best Employer 2016-17’ by World HRD Congress.

2017

  • Skybags awarded ‘Best Performing Brand in Travel Category’ for 2016-17 by Flipkart.
  • Awarded ‘Supply Chain Champion for the Year’ by Metro Cash & Carry.
  • Won India Design Mark award for VIP Tube.
  • Aristocrat won 4 awards for ‘Unpack Your Dreams’ campaign.
  • Won DMA International ECHO ‘Bronze’ award for Best Use of Artificial Intelligence in ‘On Air with Aristocrat’.
